"The 14th Five-Year Plan" clearly sets out "high-quality urban renewal" as a goal. Over the next five years, China’s urban renewal will shift from single-function renovations to multi-dimensional, integrated upgrades—improving people’s livelihoods, preserving culture, optimizing ecology, stimulating industry, and comprehensively elevating urban quality.

These past two days, Chongqing has launched its first batch of key urban renewal projects—namely, the renovation of the Qianmen Grand Bridge urban landscape and viewing platform, which is now accelerating.

CCTV reporter Jin Shuyue: This seemingly ordinary construction site actually differs greatly from previous efforts. The floor I’m on now involves road reconstruction; the level above focuses on pedestrian path improvements along side streets; the top floor includes enhancements to scenic viewpoints. Top-level design for urban scenery, bottom-up improvement of daily life—what used to be isolated, single-point renovations have now evolved into coordinated, multi-point urban renewal across entire districts.

It’s not just Chongqing—urban renewal initiatives are spreading nationwide, transforming from "points" to "regions," aligning with overall planning and holistic upgrading. From fragmented, basic renovations, cities are advancing toward high-quality urban revitalization. In Guangdong, 300 key urban renewal zones will be launched over the next five years; Wuhan, meanwhile, will lead comprehensive renewal through 182 key districts.

Massive demand is continuously triggering chain reactions across industrial sectors.Orders for Sichuan Dezhong, a leading elevator manufacturer, have already been scheduled through year-end, with the company preparing to launch a new round of capacity expansion plans. Meanwhile, in Zhejiang Wenzhou, an eco-friendly building materials enterprise plans this year to expand its production base to 30 cities.

The rapid rise of industrial clusters reflects the underlying momentum behind the "14th Five-Year Plan" period—large-scale investment in urban renewal. Such a massive investment scale isn’t just a number—it embodies the foundation for high-quality urban renewal in China.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period: 500,000 dilapidated housing units will be demolished and replaced; 1.15 million old residential communities will be renewed, offering residents a fresh living experience; 1,500 old streets and industrial zones will undergo full facelifts, rejuvenating cityscapes; 7.7 million kilometers of underground pipelines will be upgraded simultaneously, ensuring safer and smoother urban infrastructure.
